I want to use the desktop and mobile apps instead of relying on a chat channel. The Gateway is running on an Apple Silicon Mac as a LaunchAgent, its connectivity probe passes, and the phone is an iPhone. Can someone help me connect both apps?
Start with the Mac app. Install the current OpenClaw app, launch it, and choose This Mac. It should attach to the existing LaunchAgent and Gateway. Do not start a second Gateway. Once the menu-bar app can open the local dashboard, move on to iPhone pairing.
There may already be an older version of the desktop app installed.
Do not uninstall the whole OpenClaw setup. The app bundle is separate from the Gateway service and state. Open the existing app and check for an update. If needed, replace only the app in Applications with the current release, then choose This Mac again. Pause if it reports a version mismatch or proposes a Gateway change.
The Mac app is now running and attached to the existing local Gateway. There is only one Gateway process, the dashboard responds, and the app and Gateway appear compatible.
Good. For the normal iPhone flow, keep the phone and Mac on the same trusted network, create a device setup code in the Control UI, and scan it in the iPhone app. Treat the setup code like a password. If the phone creates a pending request, inspect and approve only that request:
openclaw devices list
openclaw devices approve REQUEST_ID
openclaw nodes status
A loopback-only Gateway cannot be reached directly from the phone, so stop and review the safe network setup if that is how the Gateway is bound.
Can I pair it without scanning a QR code?
Yes. Create the setup code in the Control UI, copy it locally, then use Settings > Gateway > Paste setup code in the iPhone app. Keep the code private and transfer it directly to the phone.
