My Mac has been blocked for weeks by a workspace-state conflict after a SQLite migration. The related pull request is closed, but I cannot tell whether the fix reached my local source checkout or how to recover without risking the state database.
The repair was merged, but that does not update an existing checkout automatically. First confirm the installed version with openclaw --version. Avoid editing SQLite, changing PRAGMA settings, deleting migration receipts, or downgrading across the state migration.
The installed CLI is still the older affected build. Authentication is healthy, and the failure happens before a model turn.
Preview the source update first:
openclaw update --channel dev --dry-run
If it reports a dirty checkout or cannot fetch, inspect with git status --short and git remote -v. Preserve untracked state directories rather than using git reset --hard or git clean. A cached comparison cannot prove the checkout is current when the remote fetch failed.
The only untracked material is a hidden build-helper directory containing SQLite files. The Gateway was still running from the old checkout, so I stopped it and moved that whole directory aside as a backup. The next update preview is clean.
Good. The reversible backup removes the dirty-checkout blocker. Run the real update from the same supported installation path. If an older updater falls into an invalid package fallback, stop and use the current documented installer or updater for that checkout rather than deleting state. After the new build is installed, run openclaw doctor --fix, reinstall the managed Gateway service if needed, and verify with openclaw gateway status --deep.
The explicit update is still running and has not failed. I want to preserve my messaging integrations and know the minimum remaining steps once it finishes.
The remaining sequence is: confirm the new version, let Doctor complete the workspace repair, install or start the managed Gateway from that same binary, then verify the connectivity probe. Existing channel credentials should remain under the OpenClaw state directory, so do not delete or re-link them preemptively. Once status is healthy, test one channel and use openclaw tui for terminal chat.
