After I updated on the beta channel, my startup now stops on a canonical-session migration error for one persisted cron run. The message says to stop the Gateway and run Doctor, but that repair keeps returning the same error.
First verify the Gateway is fully stopped, then run the supported repair from the current CLI:
openclaw --version
openclaw gateway stop
openclaw gateway status --deep
openclaw doctor --fix
Do not delete session rows or SQLite files manually. If the service immediately returns, another process or service may still own the state.
Gateway status also warns that the macOS service definition was created by an older beta than my current CLI.
Align the managed service before interpreting the repair result:
which -a openclaw
openclaw --version
openclaw gateway install --force
openclaw gateway status --deep
Then stop the aligned service and run Doctor once. Do not edit the LaunchAgent directly.
The service versions now match and the Gateway is stopped, but openclaw doctor --fix --non-interactive still hits the same persisted-session guard.
That establishes a failure in the documented repair path, not a live cron process that can simply be cancelled. Preserve a verified backup and the redacted Doctor output. Stop repeated restarts, archive attempts, and manual database edits. On a current release, check openclaw doctor --help for the supported session inspection path and escalate a reproducible migration failure if Doctor still cannot repair it.
I tried returning to the previous beta, but the older binary now says the SQLite schema is newer and noncanonical.
Once a newer release migrates the database, an older binary may no longer read it. Return to a compatible version and wait for any startup-migration lock to expire. A true rollback requires a pre-upgrade backup restored as a matched code-and-state pair, or an isolated fresh state directory. Never drop triggers or force an older binary against migrated state.
