Dashboard repeats every streamed update twice

Adapted community discussion: Paraphrased and condensed from an anonymized public OpenClaw Discord support conversation from September 2026. Technical guidance was reviewed for OpenClaw 2026.9.3.

My main agent looks like it is repeating itself in the dashboard. Whole progress updates appear twice, immediately next to each other, including the same counts and wording. How can I tell whether the agent actually did the work twice?

Adjacent, verbatim duplicates usually point to the Control UI replaying streamed events after a WebSocket reconnect. First compare the dashboard with the stored transcript or original delivery channel. If only the dashboard is duplicated, the agent probably did not repeat the work.

Please also check openclaw --version. For one safe test, open the same dashboard in a fresh tab without resetting the session. If needed, watch openclaw logs --follow for reconnect activity while reproducing it.

This happened on an older OpenClaw release. I have not confirmed whether the stored transcript contains the duplicate text.

Keep the session intact and check a fresh browser tab first. If the duplication disappears there and the stored transcript has one copy, the fault is presentation state rather than repeated agent execution.

This was reported on an older release, so update through the supported updater before treating it as a current defect. If a current release reproduces it, capture the version, whether the transcript is also duplicated, and the relevant reconnect lines from the Gateway log.
